Kona coffee is grown on the southwest side of the Big Island in the district of Kona, hence its name. Ka'u coffee is grown on the southern part of the Big Island in the district of Ka'u. Frequently Asked Question: What da heck is a Mokaberry?
Roastmaster: At the local coffee mill in Waialua there is a machine called a "Sorter". This machine is a large stack of different sized screens that "sorts" all the green beans into the different sizes, ie: Extra fancy is the largest, followed by Fancy, then Prime, etc with "Peaberries" ending up in their own screen. The sorter at Waialua doesn't separate the Peaberries from what we call the "Moka" beans (These are the tiny beans), so I came up with the term Mokaberry to describe this mix. Due to the smaller size, I roast them at a City Roast which is lighter than normal French Roast I do on the regular Waialua Coffee. The result is an amazing coffee with spicy and fruity undertones that will tantalize your taste buds. Enjoy!
